*Individual session with Mart Blom (don’t forget to bring your instrument (except for pianists))
As a musician it is not only important to be very skilled on your instrument, but also to be a good manager of your body and mind, since this is a big part of your instrument.
A way to deal with your thoughts and feelings about playing and performing is to know how to regulate your nervous system, learn how to connect with yourself and others and practice being more comfortable whilst playing, solo and/or in a group. During this workshop sessions you will get practical tools to work on these things.
· Body awareness
· Thoughts and feelings awareness
· Dealing with mistakes and other ‘flaws’
· Energy vs tension
· Feeling more relaxed within yourself and in contact with others (audience, colleagues, jury’s)
· Flow and concentration within the music
· Other subjects you find important and want to discuss within this field!
Mart’s vision on learning is that when you feel safe and regulated, the more information you are able to process. It’s much easier for the brain to send signals into the body if there are less obstacles in the form of stress. Luckily, Mart has science to back this up, research has shown that it works indeed like that. In her experience, musicians can sometimes be harsh on themselves or have learnt ‘the hard way’ how to play and perform. It can lead to muscle tension or negative thinking patterns. Nowadays there’s more awareness of this principle with teachers and coaches and Mart hopes to make another positive contribution to this movement in her lessons.
