Evening concert Got Tjark
The Amaris Quartet met at the Conservatoire of Amsterdam. Here they work together under the guidance of Dmitry Ferschtman, on pieces including the first movement of Brahms's first quartet, opus 51. It bursts open with nervous energy: a tense main theme, pulsating foundation, broad modulations and uninterrupted tension. Powerful, compact and typically late Brahms.
Then two pianists take the stage. Jeremy Chan, born in Hong Kong and now based in London, plays Chopin's Polonaise-Fantaisie, his last large-scale work. The fantasy part of the title suggests a bold, almost improvisational approach. Artur Buskov from Ukraine concludes the evening with Liszt's daring and dramatic Sonata S 178.
