Czechmate!

Avondconcert De Stag

Move by move, a musical chess match unfolds. Czechmate! takes you into the richness of Czech music — strategic in construction, surprising in execution and ultimately irresistible.

The opening remains a secret: a Secret Scores piece by a composer who has been unjustly forgotten. This is followed by Janáček's Pohádka, a fairytale world full of colour and speech-like melodies. Dvořák's Slavonic Dances provide a sparkling middle game, full of rhythm and energy.

After the interval, the piano quintet by Vítězslav Novák takes the stage: a rarely heard masterwork, rich, layered and compelling. A concert in which every move counts — and in which you'll gladly find yourself checkmated.
