Evening concert Got Tjark
Kevin Saw, hailing from Malaysia, and Katsura Mizumoto will kick off the second evening concert by masterclass participants with music by violist-composer Rebecca Clarke. She wrote the piece in 1919 for a competition in New York, where it won second prize after Ernest Bloch's sonata, but not without listeners openly questioning whether a woman could be the author of such brilliant music.
Next up is Budapest-born Jinseok Jeong, with piano partner Craig White. He has chosen Brahms' Sonata in F, bursting with power: stormy dialogues, dark drive and a broad romantic breath. The two voices clash, search for and find each other again in lyrical moments of calm. A late but strikingly youthful work, full of urgency and virtuoso vitality.
