Hommages (early)

The French Lucile Boulanger, this year awarded a Victoire de la Musique, takes you back to the time between Louis XIV and Louis XV. While the viola da gamba was experiencing its last glory days in France, the violin was increasingly coming to the fore. A time of fusion and confrontation between an instrument in the twilight of its existence and another at the beginning of its soloistic rise. A subtle interplay of mutual tributes between Marais, Couperin and Forqueray produces a rich, inventive sound world that breathes the refined French elegance of that time.
