Made in Hollywood

In the first half of the 20th century, classical music lent Hollywood its grandeur. Composers such as Erich Wolfgang Korngold, with his rich, symphonic style, brought the romanticism of the concert stage to the silver screen, laying the foundation for the soundtracks we know today. The Alma Quartet and Caspar Vos play his Piano Quintet from 1921, almost film music but without film. Bernard Herrmann, on the other hand, is known from his collaboration with Hitchcock (Psycho!), although his melancholic Clarinet Quintet is more introspective, less tense than his film music.
