Ménage à trois
Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms were intimately connected – both personally and musically. Their works sound like conversations about life, love and art, full of layered emotions and refined structure. Brahms' First Clarinet Sonata is a model of concentration and elegance: dreamy and contemplative, with a light-footed finale. Schumann's First Piano Trio, on the other hand, bubbles with restrained tension and dark lyricism, until it dissolves into a surprisingly light-hearted final movement. The concert opens with a mysterious Secret Scores. Who the composer is? That remains under wraps for now…
