Musical Mysticism (late)
A castle with seven successive courtyards, a spiritual journey towards God that every soul should experience. So says the early modern Carmelite Teresa of Ávila, the source of inspiration for Vasks' Castilla interior from 2014, written at the request of Sol Gabetta and premiered with Patricia Kopatchinskaja. The young players of the Iro Quartet jump from new to old with three antiphons by the medieval mystic Hildegard of Bingen, one of the founding mothers of Christian thought, feeling and life.
