Schubert Songs (early)
Anyone who thinks of the Romantic song naturally first thinks of Schubert. With his more than six hundred songs, he gave the genre an unprecedented depth and emotional richness, in which text and music come together in an almost symbiotic way. Schubert knew how to evoke entire worlds of longing, nature experience, joy and existential struggle in simple but refined melodies, carried by often evocative and expressive piano accompaniments. For his short coffee concert, Henk Neven made a selection that shows Schubert's versatility, from the dark drama of Der Zwerg to the playful intimacy of Geheimes to the poignant simplicity of Der Vater mit dem Kind.
