Viola for Breakfast (late)
In March 1851, Schumann composed his Märchenbilder for piano and viola. Inspired by the virtuoso Wilhelm Joseph von Wasielewski, we associate the four pieces with the characters that Schumann felt stirring inside him as a young man: the dreamy Eusebius and the fiery Florestan. You can hear their interaction in the atmospheric music. The melancholic ending perfectly reflects the warm sound of the viola. Hiroki Kasai, winner of a Festival Award this spring, is currently studying in Madrid with Schier veteran Nobuko Imai, and this morning also guarantees exciting Secret Scores.
