For 15 years, the Schiermonnikoog Festival has provided a springboard for young, top-tier talent in classical music. With Broedpleats Piaam, the festival is extending this role to the mainland.

In collaboration with Nynke’s Pleats in Piaam, Friesland, a new space for in-depth development is emerging: a small-scale residency where young musicians work not only on their artistic development, but also on their place in today’s music scene.

What is Broedpleats Piaam?
Broedpleats Piaam is not a traditional masterclass. Here, you learn through hands-on practice. You work alongside coaches who are themselves active in the field. You rehearse, programme, experiment and perform together on stage.

From 2 to 6 September 2026, participants and coaches will live and work together in one place: the historic farmhouse Nynke’s Pleats. This immersion creates space, focus and depth; exactly what is needed to take steps forward in your development as a musician.

For the audience: experience the music of tomorrow

During the residency, we will be opening our doors to the public.

At two concerts on Saturday evening, 5 September, and Sunday afternoon, 6 September, you can experience the energy of a new generation of musicians. Expect sparkling chamber music, surprising arrangements and an intimate, personal atmosphere.

For participants: what's in it for me?

Broedpleats Piaam is for young musicians who want to go beyond simply playing their instrument.

During the residency*:

  • you’ll develop a programme tailored to your needs
  • you’ll collaborate closely with other musicians
  • you’ll discover new ways of performing
  • you’ll learn how to reach and build an audience
  • you’ll build your artistic profile and future

You won’t be working towards an assessment, but towards a performance for a live audience.
