Lecture: Sergej Rachmaninov

Russian Sergei Rachmaninov composed hundreds of musical pieces, of which only 45 were given an opus number. For instance, there are 83 songs by his hand alone. This brilliant pianist fled Russia in 1917, wandered around Europe for a few years and eventually ended up in the US, where he celebrated triumphs but also overflowed with melancholy. In a short lecture with photos and music excerpts, Hans van den Boom (former presenter of NPO Klassiek) tells almost everything about Sergei Rachmaninov's life and work in a nutshell.
