Sung by the Wind

Middagconcert

Without breath, there is no sound. In Sung by the Wind, the wind instruments take centre stage – instruments that literally come to life through air.

The programme opens with a remarkable discovery: Jane Vignery’s horn sonata, a refined and rarely heard work in which horn player Mees Vos sings in long, lyrical lines. This is followed by Saint-Saëns’ bassoon sonata, in which clarity and playfulness go hand in hand.

The finale is Poulenc’s beloved clarinet sonata: a work full of contrast, in which melancholy and lightness constantly alternate.

A concert that showcases just how rich and expressive the wind repertoire is – music that breathes and sings.
