Whispers of the Sibyls

Avondconcert Got Tjark
In Whispers of the Sibyls, the Sibil•la Ensemble turns to female voices from antiquity, the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Composers such as Kassia, Hildegard von Bingen, Hadewijch and Comtessa de Dia are presented here as autonomous creators within a rich, but often one-sided musical history.

The programme challenges the traditional image of medieval music as an exclusively male practice, revealing how women actively participated in the creation and performance of music.

The contribution of musicologist Saskia Törnqvist adds a deeper layer of reflection. This collaboration, initiated by the festival, connects music and scholarship, marking a new step in the intellectual depth of the concert programming.
